Our Motto . . . Today Is A Happy Day!

" A joyful, hopeful book that reminds us all that we really do have the choice to be happy. A beautiful inspiration for children (and adults!) of all ages. Simply put--this book made me Smile!"

- Patrice Karst, author of The Invisible String and The Smile That Went Around the World

It all started with a dog named “Cosmo.” Suzanne and I were first inspired to get Cosmo, our Norfolk Terrier, while watching “Coco,” another Norfolk Terrier, win the dog show. We knew at that time, that a Coco look alike was in our future; Suzanne set out to do some research.

She contacted a breeder in Flint, MI who told us that a puppy would not be available until the following year. During this time, my father passed away and I flew to California. While gone, the breeder called to say that Cosmo, a five-month old terrier, was seeking a family. The gentleman who had first taken Cosmo had broken his hip and was unable to care for him. In addition, the breeder had back surgery scheduled and needed someone to take him ASAP. Suzanne was thrilled and called me in California. She excitedly delivered the news that Cosmo was on his way; the rest was history.

Cosmo is now an integral part of our lives. He has taught us unconditional love, patience, and has guided us to enjoy living life in the moment; everyday is a happy day for Cosmo.

While we knew that Cosmo was special, we had no idea how other people would react to him. We quickly learned that everywhere we went people wanted to know about Cosmo. They would ask: “What kind of dog is he? What’s his name? Where can we find one like him?” Apparently, we were not the only ones who thought Cosmo was special. His love for people, especially children, was evident and endeared him to everyone he met.

When we moved from California to Asheville, NC, Suzanne’s neurologist suggested that she certify Cosmo as a service dog. Suzanne had suffered a traumatic brain injury that was the result of a car accident. Today, Cosmo accompanies Suzanne on volunteer trips to children’s homes and hospitals as a representative for “Paws with a Purpose.”

Cosmo’s spirit and personality was just the muse Suzanne needed to write a book to inspire children everywhere to be happy and to use their imagination -- to be anything they want to be, no matter what surrounds them.

So, with that, I created Happy Creek Press, Inc. to publish this delightful book series with the vision and inspiration that every day is a happy day.

Our life is what we make it, and at anytime we can change our thinking and change our lives. I believe to know that we are perfect, whole and complete is the best gift we can give a child. And, the Cosmo adventure series has this message at its core. I feel honored and blessed to be part of such a positive business.
